Best Budget Monitors for Coding: Ultrawide or Dual-Monitor Setup?

I am looking to upgrade my home office setup primarily for software development, with a strict budget of around $350. I am torn between getting a single budget ultrawide monitor or sticking with a reliable dual-monitor setup using two standard 24-inch screens. What configuration do you find better for managing multiple IDE windows, documentation, and terminal outputs without breaking the bank? Any specific model recommendations under this budget would be greatly appreciated!

I was in the exact same dilemma last year when I was Switching Careers to Tech: Self-Taught vs. Bootcamps vs. Degrees (What Worked for You?). Honestly, going with a dual 24-inch setup saved my sanity. Having my IDE full screen on the main monitor and documentation/terminal on the second monitor is hard to beat for $350.

Get two 24-inch IPS monitors, like the Dell P2422H. Total cost will be well under your $350 budget, leaving you extra cash for decent VESA mounts. Ultrawides at this price point often compromise on vertical resolution or refresh rates.

Team dual-monitor all the way. Snapping windows is so much cleaner on two separate physical displays than trying to manage zones on a single ultrawide using third-party software.

If you code mostly in full-screen IDEs and want minimal bezel interruption in the middle, look at a 34-inch budget ultrawide like the Sceptre or LG 34WN650-W. They frequently drop below $300 on Amazon and give you massive horizontal real estate.

I actually tried both configurations while figuring out my daily routine, much like when I was researching Intermittent Fasting for Fat Loss: Practical Experiences, Routines, and Hidden Pitfalls to find what sustainable workflow actually stuck. Dual monitors won out for software development because sharing your screen on Zoom or Teams is an absolute nightmare on an ultrawide.

Don't sleep on resolution! A cheap ultrawide might only give you 2560x1080, which looks a bit pixelated for text rendering compared to two sharp 1080p 24-inch monitors.

I bought a Gigabyte G24F-2 and a secondary office monitor for under $300 total. Having a high refresh rate on the main coding screen is amazing for scrolling through long files smoothly.

Go with the dual setup. If one monitor dies, you still have a backup to finish your workday. If an ultrawide fails, you are completely out of commission.
