I've been working from home for over a year now and my lower back is seriously starting to protest. Everyone recommends the Herman Miller Embody or Aeron, but I just can't justify spending over a grand on a desk chair right now. What are the best budget-friendly ergonomic alternatives under $500 that actually offer decent lumbar support and adjustability for long sitting sessions?

I completely feel your pain. I was in the exact same boat last year until I finally pulled the trigger on a Ticova ergonomic chair. It's usually around $200-$250 and has adjustable lumbar support that actually pushes into your lower back properly.

Check out the Sihoo Doro C300. It's well under the $500 mark and has a dynamic lumbar tracking system that moves with you when you recline. Honestly feels way better than expected for the price.

If you want something built like a tank, look for a used Steelcase Leap V2 on Facebook Marketplace or Crandall Office. They refurbish them and sell them right around $400-$450 with a warranty. Best decision I ever made for my sciatica.

Has anyone tried the Autonomous ErgoChair Plus? I've been eyeing it for a while now. It's right around $450 and looks super sleek, but I'm worried about long-term durability.

Honestly, before you drop hundreds on a new chair, make sure your desk height and monitor placement are actually correct. Sometimes poor posture is caused by setup rather than just the chair itself. The IKEA Jarvfjallet is a solid budget pick if you're on a strict budget under $300. The lumbar is decent, though the armrests leave a bit to be desired. Still, way better than a standard dining chair!

Another vote for the Steelcase Leap V2 refurbished route. Don't buy a brand-new $300 mesh chair from Amazon when you can get a commercial-grade ergonomic masterpiece that's been given new foam and fabric for just under $500.

I bought the Colamy Atlas and I've been pleasantly surprised. It has 4D armrests, a mesh back, and decent synchro-tilt mechanisms that you usually only see on chairs double the price.

Make sure whatever you buy has a good return policy. Ergonomics are so personal—what cures one person's lower back pain might make another person's hips cramp up.

By the way, if you're sitting at a desk all day trying to fix your physical health and recovery, make sure you're also keeping an eye on your rest at night. The Haworth Soothe or even looking for a refurbished Haworth Zody is a great move. Haworth makes incredible ergonomic gear that competes directly with Herman Miller without the crazy markup.

I'm using the Staples Hyken and while the mesh seat is a bit firm for some, the lumbar support completely cured my lower back spasms. Just make sure you remove the lumbar pillow plastic insert hack if it's too aggressive!

Thanks for all the recommendations everyone! I think I'm going to hunt for a refurbished Steelcase Leap V2 or check out the Sihoo. My lower back can't take another week of this old gaming chair.
